Day 174: Date Rape

Day two is about a more common type of sexual assault. Usually, this is referred to as date rape, and apparently there are a lot of people who don’t think this is really rape. It doesn’t just happen in college; it happens everywhere. Much of the time, the victim is blamed for the assault. A lot of the time people say the victim is asking for a date rape situation, but that is completely irrational.

It doesn’t matter what the victims are wearing or how much they have had to drink. No one asks for this, and no one is to blame except the person who commits the crime.

The victim doesn’t have a say. It’s not the red cup, and it’s not her.

Some resources for today:
National Resource: RAINN
Local Resource: SASS
Also, Mary Koss had a pretty interesting study about the prevalence of date rape.

So, are these friends of yours that are posing for you? Pretty awesome! I feel very weird saying I love this photo, considering what it’s representing, but your composition is nothing short of amazing 🙂

    • Yeah! I’m pretty excited about it, and my friends have been great 🙂 But yeah I really liked my composition here too!! I think I’m getting the hang of this whole photojournalism/portrait thing 🙂

It is great that you are getting people involved in your project because that is even more people that you are spreading the word to not only about your work but about this cause.

    • That’s true! I didn’t even think about that! I’m going to end up needing a lot of people to help me out, and it really could be a great way to get people involved 🙂 Thanks Mindy! 🙂
