Day 254: Marigolds for the Ladies

Today was not just the first day of summer, it was the beginning of Summer Root Troop! Food Roots hosts a gardening program for kids in middle school during the summer. I was so glad to be part of it, and it just makes me even more enthusiastic about my internship! I got so many photos today, but it’s difficult to choose just one. I picked this one because of the short story behind it…

Shelly, the program manager, started talking about marigolds. She told the young boys at Summer Root Troop about how great marigolds were for gardens. Apparently, they keep the bugs out!  She also told these boys that women love marigolds because they are so pretty! So, if these boys had special ladies in their lives, maybe a girlfriend, they should bring marigolds home and plant them in their gardens. Suddenly, the boys got so excited about marigolds. They transplanted them into several different pots so each boy could have a few. It cracked me up!

One young boy scrambling to plant his marigolds as quickly as possible!
